Williamsburg on the Virginia Peninsula is an independent city in the state of Virginia. Originally settled on the high ground/peninsula between the James and York rivers, the city was at the center of political events leading to the American Revolution. It is best known for the restored Colonial Williamsburg and for the College of William and Mary. The world-renowned Historic Triangle of Virginia includes Jamestown and Yorktown with Williamsburg somewhere in the middle. Interstate 64, U.S. Route 60 and State Route 143 as well as the Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport, the Norfolk International Airport and Richmond International Airport bring travelers into the city. Festivals in the city include An Occasion for the Arts, a yearly juried arts festival in downtown Williamsburg and the Virginia Arts Festival. The visitor can also spend some time at the Muscarelle Museum of Art and listen to the music of the Williamsburg Symphonia. As with the historical Colonial Williamsburg, the visitor should definitely take the trouble to get to the historic Jamestown Settlement.
